"Olympic Fever" is about to hit, so use it to get
your students active and boost your budget! This mini-Olympics
runs just like a tabloid sports day.
What To Do:
 | Set up a circuit of Olympic style events for
5-8 minutes and rotate to next activity when whistle is blown.
|
 | Really get into the spirit and get each
class to create a team name, flag, chant and even wear team
colours on the day! |
Here are some sample events:
 | Long jump |
 | Basketball shootout (try to get as many
goals as you can in the time limit) |
 | Hockey passes back and forward with a
partner |
 | Quoits |
 | Gymnastic / Balance routine, forward roll
onto mat, jump into hoops, balance on beam |
Hint: Make your day
even more fun by adding Novelty Olympic events like these...
 | 3 legged race |
 | Potato sack race
|
 | Beanbag on head relay
|
 | Un-Hurdles (you have to crawl under them)
|
 | Obstacle course steeple chase (see
Obstacle course ideas below) |

This A-thon is easy to organise and a real hit -
especially with younger students.
What To Do:
Set up a challenging and fun course to get your
students moving (and laughing).
 | Under hurdles |
 | Over a high jump mat
|
 | Limbo under high jump stick
|
 | Crawl through tunnels
|
 | Roll on gym mats
|
 | Step from hoop to hoop (or in old car
tyres) |
 | Run around witches hats
|

Easy to organise and fun to run, make fast funds
with our Dash for Cash!
What To Do:
 | Set up a long course for your students to
run, walk or skip around with cones or witches hats
|
 | Station a class teacher/parent at every bend
to keep kids motivated and on track |
 | Every time a student passes his or her
teacher, they get a stamp or tick on their hand to keep a
record of their progress |
We suggest the following distances as a guide
(talk to your cross-country co-ordinator for specifics for
your school).
 | Years K-2 500-750m or 10 laps around a short
track. |
 | Years 3-4 2 Km
|
 | Years 5-6 3 Km
|
 | Years 7-8 3 Km
|
 | Years 9-10 4 Km
|
 | Years 11-12 5 Km
|
Adjust the distance to suit your students, time
available and whether they will be running or walking.

 | Having trouble getting children to
participate in the sports carnival? |
 | Would you like to increase student
participation? |
Why Not Turn Your Athletics Carnival Into An
Olympathon
And Help Raise Thousands Of Dollars For Your School
At The Same Time...It's So Easy!
GREAT FOR PRIMARY AND HIGH SCHOOLS…without having
to put on another event!
 | Just have your students be sponsored to be
in at least one event on the day |
 | They get active, everyone participates in
the carnival, and you raise all the money you need, without
having to put on another event! |
Talk about easy...this is a
real winner!
You run an Athletics Carnival already, so why
not use it to raise money and increase student participation at
the same time.

A great way to encourage fitness and regular
exercise…and its fun!
What To Do:
 | Each morning for 1-2 weeks, hold a 10-minute
Health Hustle. It's like a mini aerobics session for kids and
gets them active, energised and ready to learn |
 | Get some groovy music and have a teacher
lead the students at morning assembly |
Its fun, its fast and it
works!

 |
Disco / Danceathon / Aerobathon |
Fast and fun, with 40 minutes of high energy music
and dance your students will love.
What To Do:
 | Macarena |
 | Nut Bush City Limits
|
 | Bus Stop |
 | The chicken dance
|
Alternative: Hold
a school disco and have students get sponsored to participate, so
it's social as well as sporty!

Why not have a Skillathon where students/children
practise different skills that they have been learning in any
given sport or other activity.
Here are some ideas:
 | Soccerathon |
 | Ballathon |
 | Bikeathon |
 | Skipathon |
 | Skatathon |
A Skillathon can be incorporated into any sport
or activity regardless of the age of the students/children. Be
adventurous! Why not give it a go…you'll be surprised at the
results!
